Review
Cool PDF Reader is a PDF file viewer for Windows. It's an alternative to Adobe’s reader, but much lighter, with simpler controls and extra features not found in Adobe’s reader and other similar applications. These features include converting the PDF files to image and text files and a slideshow mode.
The interface is not complex, most of the icons practically describe what they do and they also have tooltip texts to explain their functions. Extra features include rotating pages, automatic zoom adjustment, drag and drop interface and slide show option.
The sideshow is definitely a feature rarely found in similar applications, for it automatically turns the pages for the user, resembling MS Word's reading view but with automatic page changer. Another advantage is that PDFs can be converted to TXT, BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG, WMF, EMF, EPS formats.
The new version features a pan view, drag-and-drop support, Win 7 compatibility (including 64 bit versions) and better conversion to TXT. On the downside, the only way in the program to go to/type a specific page is through the menu, rather than having a text box or something in the interface but it’s not really an issue. |
